Surgical services: The lack of access to emergency and surgical care in east African counties like Somalia and Ethiopia has been acknowledged as a dangerous gap in the development of health systems.
Large numbers of women die from complications of childbirth every day in Somali and Ethiopia. Most of these deaths could be avoided by providing women with access to basic obstetric care and obstetric surgical care.

The overall disease burden associated with surgical conditions in East Africa particularly the war ravaged country like Somalia, is astonishingly high. Surgical care is unavailable to many communities, especially to those who live far away from the cities and unable to travel to the nearest hospital. Those patients who do reach a health facility often arrive at a relatively advanced state of disease when the curative window may have passed

Poorly equipped hospitals in these communities then attempt to perform emergency surgery for obstetric complications, abdominal emergencies and basic thoracic and head injuries, simple orthopedic care for extremity fractures, dislocations, and amputations, burn care, and less complicated. However, many district hospitals in East Africa lack the capacity to provide such care.

HEPTO profoundly understands the root of each problem and plans to improve outcomes through education, training and communication to all stakeholders in these communities.

The HEPTO managements and staff have over twenty years of surgical experiences and they can implement a program designed to address these deficiencies.

We have three levels of training; general public education, hospital staff training and higher professional development for doctors and nurses. Our services consist of precise theoretical lectures and hands-on training.  The success rate of similar ideas is very positive and we believe this program will produce fast and desirable outcomes.
